Who we are
Esoterica is a platform for thought-provoking fiction and non-fiction. We mean to inspire conversations and create intrigue. The magazine was founded by Leah Eichler at the end of 2021 in an effort to ensure that there would always be a safe space for fiction writers and journalists to share thoughts and ideas.
Leah is a lifelong journalist who started her career working for the Jerusalem Report in Jerusalem, before spending the next 13 years at Reuters in Toronto. She has interviewed the famous and infamous alike, including Salman Rushdie, Henry Morgentaler, and the Nazi-hunter, Simon Wiesenthal. After Reuters, Leah spent six years as a weekly columnist for the Globe and Mail. In addition to her role as Publisher and Managing Editor at Esoterica, Leah spends her time as an award-winning fiction writer. She is represented by Marilyn Biderman at Transatlantic Agency.
Susan Catto is an award-winning writer and editor who has been a regular contributor to publications including The New York Times and The Economist. Susan earned a doctorate in British Literature from the University of Oxford and a B.A. from Columbia University. She is a compulsive reader and future body-surfing champion.
